INCU President Prof David Widdowson and INCU representatives Mr Bryce Blegen and Ms Sophie Verberckmoes participated in the 8th Session of the WCO Capacity Building Committee (CBC) which was held at the WCO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
The CBC meeting included a joint session with the WCO Trade Facilitation Agreement Working Group (TFAWG) meeting and the discussions focused on the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) that entered into force on 22 February 2017. The Joint Session of TFAWG and CBC discussed the successes of the WCO Mercator Programme, a dedicated Capacity Building Programme consisting of WCO Instruments and Tools such as the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC) and the WCO Time Release Study (TRS) to support Members in the harmonized implementation of the TFA.
As part of the WCO CBC meeting and on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2017 a mini-graduation ceremony was held for INCU Member, Ms Therese Martinez from Belize Customs, who is a Professional Associate at the WCO Secretariat and who recently completed her Master of Customs Administration at the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies (CCES), Charles Sturt University, Australia. Prof Widdowson formally presented Ms Martinez with her testamur.
