INCU Representative Participates in the AEO International Conference and Assembly

INCU Advisory Board Member, Mr Lars Karlsson, delivered a keynote address at the 2018 AEO International Conference and Assembly that was held from 2 to 4 May 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan with the theme “Contributing to a Secure Business Environment for Economic Development”.

The conference was organised by the International Association of Authorized Economic Operators (AEO), Customs and Logistics in cooperation with the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The conferences included several Panel sessions on various topics including:

  • Building a Secure Supply Chain
  • AEO: Global Competition and Cooperation; and
  • The Silk Road Economic Belt: Corporations, Logistics Services and Border Security

Lars Karlsson presented the main report entitled “Silk Road: Border Security Prospects”. In the report, Lars Karlsson discussed the globalization process, its impact on economy and development of trade. He underlined that Azerbaijan, which is located on the ancient and modern trade routes, and its capital Baku, have drastically changed and are still developing rapidly. He pointed out that the country’s support for the development of the international trade was of great importance.

Speaking about the ongoing economic processes in the world, the role of trade in the development of economy, new trade models and the global value chains, Mr Lars Karlsson also drew attention to the border security and the role of information technologies in this area. Touching on the role of the Authorised Economic Operator in the rapid and easy international trade, their emergence and prospects, Lars Karlsson underlined that relations among the parties involved in the trade chain must be strengthened.

The conference was attended by some 150 delegates from 25 countries including senior officers of the World Customs Organization (WCO) including WCO Deputy-Secretary General, Mr Ricardo Trevino Chapa and Chair of WCO Council, Mr Enrique Canon.
