The Inauguration Ceremony of the INCU Baku Regional Office took place on 11 September 2015 in the new premises of INCU Baku Regional Office located on 12th floor of Azure Business Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The office was opened by the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Professor Aydin Aliyev, President of the INCU Professor David Widdowson and Vice-President of the INCU Professor Michael Wolffgang.
It started with Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Prof. Aydin Aliyev and INCU President Prof. David Widdowson cutting the ribbon and thus inaugurating the new office.
Following that, Prof. Aydin Aliyev and Prof. Widdowson exchanged remarks and shared their views on future functioning of the office. Professor Widdowson stated that Baku Regional Office will expand its membership scale in the region and worldwide, contribute to education of customs professionals and raise the academic standing of customs profession in the region. INCU Vice-President Prof. Michael Wolfgang also gave an interview to the press and shared his views about the INCU Baku Office.
The ceremony was attended by some 80 participants including academia, customs officers, other government officers, representatives of international organisations and private sector and the media. Directors-General of Cameroon Customs and Gabon Customs administrations were among the dignitaries who attended the opening ceremony.
The ceremony was followed by a tour of the INCU office and a cocktail reception that took place at the WCO Regional Office for Capacity Building, which is located only a few blocks away from the INCU Regional Office.
In the evening, INCU also hosted a dinner at the “Khanedan” restaurant in Baku to celebrate the event with guests who attended the opening ceremony.
To mark the occasion and as a token of appreciation, a book titled “The Arrow Impossibility Theorem” co-authored and personally signed by Nobel Laureate Prof. Eric Maskin was presented by INCU President to the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Prof. Aydin Aliyev.
