Two students from an INCU Institutional Member, Shanghai Customs College (SCC), Ms Ruize Han and Ms Yuxin Qi, participated in the INCU Summer Internship program from 5 to 23 August 2024 and spent three weeks at the INCU Secretariat office in Canberra, Australia.
During the 3-week internship, students worked closely with Head of INCU Secretariat, Dr. Mikhail Kashubsky and have undertaken a number of tasks including evaluation and updates to the INCU website, assistance with research and referencing, assistance with administrative aspects of the World Customs Journal, drafting of official correspondence, and preparation of survey questionnaire for INCU members. The interns also had an opportunity to participate in some social and cultural activities in Australia, including visits to the various tourist sites in Canberra and the surrounding region.
Initiated in 2018, the INCU internship program aims to provide customs students the opportunity to further develop their skills and obtain professional experience in an international organisation focused on customs and international trade, and to better prepare them for future job opportunities. The focus of the internship was on research, public relations, external and internal communications.
According to Ms Han and Ms Qi, this internship has been a pivotal step in their professional journey, which provided them with practical skills, cross-cultural experiences, and a deeper appreciation for international customs and trade aspects.
On completion of their internship, the students were presented with Certificates of Completion by the INCU President, Professor David Widdowson.
