1st Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc (CCBI) Batangas Convention (Lyceum of the Philippines University - Batangas)

With the theme “Embracing Sustainability for Career Development and Business Growth”, the First Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc (CCBI) Batangas Convention was held on 7 March 2012 at the Freedom Hall, Lyceum of the Philippines University Batangas, Capitol Site, Batangas City, Philippines in cooperation with Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) and Philippine Association of Customs Administration Students (PSCAS) Batangas Chapter.

 

The convention acknowledged the International Customs Day which was celebrated by international customs community on 26 January.

 

This convention was attended by customs brokers, importers/exporters and other stakeholders, alumni, faculty members and students of customs administration from different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon (CALABARZON) such as LPU, Batangas State University, Westmead College, Agoncillo College and Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and notable officials from concerned government agencies and the private sector. Among them were Customs Commissioner Rozzano Ruffy B. Biazon, Chairman, PRBCB Atty. Ferdinand A. Nague, Batangas District Collector of Customs Mr. Rene M. Benavidez and Deputy Collector for Administration Mr. Bert Manalo, PPA Port Manager Atty. Leopoldo C. Biscocho, Jr., CCBI-National Chapter Officials and many others.

 

The Port Manager highlighted the development of Port of Batangas wherein the brokers and future customs brokers will be engaged in brokerage operation and other related services in line with their respective profession.

 

Mr. Samuel Bautista, the Program Director of Air21 Academy of Developmental Logistics, discussed the history and background at the joint efforts of WCO and INCU towards capacity building and in advancing customs academic research and professionalism worldwide. He gave emphasis on how PICARD helps to unite and establish cooperation between the academic world and customs with the goal of gaining awareness and confidence in becoming a world class customs professional.

 

The Integrity and Ethics in Customs Administration was discussed by Atty. Ferdinand A. Nague, Chairman, Professional Regulatory Board for Customs Brokers (PRBCB). He gave emphasis on the Code of Ethics for Customs Brokers pursuant to R.A. No. 9280, the “Customs Brokers Act of 2004”. Customs brokers should create the best practices in the field of profession and should establish standards of professional practices.

 

Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon was the special guest and led the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected officers CCBI-Batangas Chapter. Dr. Julia A. Macalalad (President); Dr. Arnold N. Ditan (Executive Vice President); Samuel C. Bautista  (Vice President for Professional Development); Jeanette M. Roxas (Vice President for Internal Affairs); Eloisa P. Suarez (Vice President for Government Affairs); Filomena M. Mendoza  (Secretary); Ronald A. Perez (Treasurer); Marcelina M. Balmes (Auditor); Jayson E. Bahala (PRO); Criselda A. Atienza, Gloria M. Regalario and Aiza R. Acar (Board of Directors); Victor D. Magcasi (Executive Director) and Mrs. Juanita B. Corrales (Adviser on Customs Matters). This Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc (CCBI) -Batangas Chapter is under the umbrella of CCBI National Chapter, an accredited professional organization of customs brokers. Its primary objectives are to protect the rights and interests of the customs brokers and to maintain high professionalism among its members.

The convention was very successful and meaningful that it marks a history in the CCBI Batangas Chapter. Dr. Arnold N. Ditan and Mrs. Jeanette M. Roxas served as hosts of the event.

 

On the other side of the affairs, Mr. John Rick D. Caringal and Ms. Jenny Rose L.  Aguba were hailed as Mr. and Ms. PSCAS Lyceum 2012 in the pageant. Prior to this, Caringal and Aguba wowed the crowd with their looks, poise and wits making them were both declared as Ms. Photogenic, Best in Sports Wear and Best in Corporate Attire. Mr Caringal and Ms. Aguba will represent in the Search for Mr. and Ms. PSCAS Batangas 2013.

 

Ms. Crystal Gale Dampil, Commissioner, PSCAS-Lyceum Chapter delivered the welcome address while the entire PSCAS family were the ones behind the success of the said search.

 

 

 

Ms. Gerlie B. Perez, President, CCBI-National gave an inspirational message during the Convention.

 

 

 

Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon led the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected officers CCBI-Batangas Chapter.

 

 

 

PPA Port Manager Atty. Leopoldo C. Biscocho, Jr., highlighted the development of Port of Batangas, Philippines.

 

 

 

Atty. Nague emphasized the Integrity and Ethical Standards in the Practice of Customs Brokers profession.

 

 

Mr. Bautista discussed the history and background at the joint efforts of WCO and INCU towards capacity building and in advancing customs academic research and professionalism worldwide.
